AirBar – bring touchscreen features in a non-touchscreen display
The AirBar is a sleek innovative device designed to give an add-on feature to your laptops. It lets you add accurate and affordable touchscreen capabilities to any non-touch laptop without spending a high amount. It comes with various options to fit our screen display perfectly and is also available for 13.3-, 14- and 15.6-inchand fits in a manner which is unnoticeable against fits the bezel beneath the screen.
It is designed such that a 9.5-inch USB cable extends towards the notebook. One can’t remove the cord, in case it gets damaged, one needs to buy a new AirBar. As the cable extends from the right side of the AirBar, it also means one needs to use a USB port on the right side of your notebook, which then requires the change in your current peripheral setup. If you try using the AirBar upside down and plugged in on the other side chances are there that it will not work. The AirBar is attached to the bezel using the magnets provided. The adhesive backs help fasten the first two magnets to the bezel. The adhesive-attached magnets are hard to remove, which keeps it attached to your display for a long time. For proper calibration see to it that you align them with a space of 3 millimeters between the AirBar and the display.
After it is attached, one might start worrying about what if I accidentally closed my laptop on it. You don’t need to worry about because usually while shutting the lid the person’s hand will be at the top of the screen and this is detected by the AirBar resulting into loud beeps, all this is done with the use of its laser technology. It is recommended to remove the device before closing the notebook. However, it can send alerts only when the computer is on.
Performance and OS Support:
This device used to plug-and-play. As soon as it is attached to the laptop, the peripheral’s driver is installed, and it is then ready to go. The AirBar projects an invisible light field above the screen which provides feedback to your notebook. When you touch the screen the field is broken, with the touch probably by finger, stylus or anything else, it knows where on the screen the person is touching. The technology is impressive, but its performance is not as a regular touch screen provides. Still, it’s capable of scrolling, pinch-to-zoom gestures, handling navigation etc.
It does not support multi-touch it only supports two-finger gestures, which works fine for the majority of Windows 10 functions. However, one can’t open the Action Center with four fingers or activate Cortana by touching the screen with three fingers or so.
Sometimes the AirBar won’t rectify the second finger if you place it on top of another. My guess is that it happens because both of the fingers block the light in the same space, so it notices only one digit.
The AirBar also works with Chrome OS in addition to Windows 10, but it’s more of a toss-up with macOS. AirBar faces problems when it is then cased for macOS it is because macOS isn’t made with touch in mind. However, it depends on all on your Mac compatibility. The MacBook Air is for a touch screen Mac, thanks to its thick bottom bezel. AirBar works on parts of the panel and is not an effective solution as such.
The Neonode AirBar is tested for 15.6-inch displays, based on sales it is the most popular option. The NeonodeAirBar is priced at$69 and is available at the same price for 13.3 and 14-inch displays.
This is a cool device from Neonode that help your laptop screen turns into a touch screen platform for performing the task even better in an easy way.
