Most of our smartphones are currently running on Bluetooth version 4. And from since last 8 months, we have been hearing about the next version of Bluetooth. Now the time has come as Bluetooth (SIG) Special Interest Group has disclosed the new Bluetooth version 5 in London on 17th June 2016.
What’s special about Bluetooth version 5?
Well, there are a lot more improvements of Bluetooth version 5 over Bluetooth version 4. First, the major improvement is the speed which is said to be doubled and second is the range where it’s going to be increased by four times of the existing version. Not limiting to just these improvements, Bluetooth version 5 is also future ready to play a vital role in connecting the devices of IoT.

What Mike Powell does say about Bluetooth version 5?
Mike Powell happens to be the Executive Director of BSIG (Bluetooth Special Interest Group), and according to him, the new Bluetooth v5 will increase the capacity of data transfers by 800 percent. He also believes that Bluetooth 5 will seamlessly connect to the available IoT devices in a wide range and enhance the user experience in transferring the data to IoT devices. The other new inclusions in Bluetooth version 5 are the services like location awareness and beacons which alert the user and helps in establishing effortless IoT experience. According to Powell, presently there are about 8.2 billion devices that use Bluetooth products and about one-third of the devices would support Bluetooth version 5 by 2020.
Looking at the current usage of Bluetooth products it seems 2020 would be a much longer period. Bluetooth 5 will flourish in the Tech industry as it is supported by many Tech giants.
When will Bluetooth 5 be available?
The answer to this question is also given by Powell saying that the Bluetooth 5 would be available to users by the end of 2016 or early 2017. So, if you are keen on having Bluetooth 5 then you need to wait still for few months.
