If you want to create a new label then sorry you are wasting time on the app. You have to visit the desktop version and create a new label there. Android users won’t have the option to create, edit and delete a label from the Gmail app. Google is now considering users feedback to add this option in the Gmail app for the android users. So if you are an android user simply send a feedback as if you like to create a new label in the app. You can submit feedback by clicking the gear icon in Gmail in the upper right-hand corner and then select “Send Feedback” or “Help” and then “Send Feedback” – this helps Google monitor the volume of feedback and the different feature requests that people would like to see for Gmail.

If you are accessing Gmail via iOS app then here are the steps to add a label
- Open the Gmail app and open a message
- If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender’s profile image
- In the top right, tap More Change labels.
- Check the boxes next to the labels you want to add.
- In the top right, tap Done .
